About LFS files
The .LFS file format is primarily an XML-based placeholder used by the Mimecast enterprise email security platform. It stands for Large File Send. Instead of sending heavy attachments that clog email servers, Mimecast uploads the actual file to a secure cloud server and replaces the email attachment with a tiny .LFS file. This file contains the URL and instructions needed to download the real file. Users often face frustration because they expect the .LFS file to contain their actual document, video, or presentation. It does not. Without an internet connection or proper access rights, the file is functionally useless. Secondary uses include proprietary game resource archives for the Capcom MT Framework engine, which store 3D models and textures, and params.lfs files used by Samsung Android devices to store critical boot parameters. Standard online converters cannot convert a Mimecast .LFS directly into a PDF or MP4 because the media is not actually inside the file. Game archives and firmware files also fail because they are closed, proprietary formats. Our tool can parse the underlying XML of Mimecast files to help you find the actual download link, or inspect the hex data of unrecognized game archives.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LFS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LFS file to PDF, MP4, SYS, DLL, EXE, DRV, VXD, 386, COM, BAT, CMD or SCR, you can use Mimecast or similar software from the "Large File Attachment Placeholder" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to LFS, try Mimecast or another comparable tool in the "Large File Attachment Placeholder" category.
The LFS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LFS converter.
