About JSONLZ4 files
The .JSONLZ4 file is an LZ4-compressed JSON file used almost exclusively by Mozilla Firefox to store user profile data. Firefox uses this format for automated bookmark backups (stored in the bookmarkbackups folder) and session recovery states.
The main disadvantage of .JSONLZ4 is its proprietary nature. While it relies on standard LZ4 compression, Mozilla prepends a custom mozLz40\0 header to the file. Because of this non-standard header, you cannot open the file in standard text editors like Notepad++ or Visual Studio Code, which will only display binary gibberish. Furthermore, standard LZ4 command-line extraction tools will fail to decompress it, leaving users unable to easily access their own backup data outside of Firefox.
To interact with your data, you must decompress and convert the file. For developers and users needing to read or edit the raw configuration, convert to JSON. For users looking to migrate their bookmarks to a different browser, convert to HTML (the standard bookmark import format). For basic readability, convert to TXT.
Convert.Guru analyzes your JSONLZ4 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert JSONLZ4 file to JSON, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE or ARJ, you can use Mozilla Firefox or similar software from the "Browser Profile Data Backup" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to JSONLZ4, try Mozilla Firefox or another comparable tool in the "Browser Profile Data Backup" category.
The JSONLZ4 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JSONLZ4 converter.
