About ISPD files
An .ISPD file is a proprietary data format used to store infrared spectroscopy results, including raw spectral data, instrument settings, and audit trails. These files are primarily created by scientific instrument software such as PerkinElmer Spectrum and Shimadzu LabSolutions IR. Researchers and lab technicians frequently struggle with .ISPD files because they are heavily restricted. They require expensive, vendor-specific software licenses to open and are essentially unreadable on standard desktop computers or web browsers. This vendor lock-in makes sharing raw data with external collaborators or peer reviewers highly frustrating. To analyze the data freely, you need to convert .ISPD files to open formats like .CSV or .TXT for use in Microsoft Excel or Python. For sharing across different spectral analysis software, .JDX (JCAMP-DX) is the industry standard. Note that converting away from .ISPD will usually strip the proprietary regulatory audit trails and instrument calibration metadata, preserving only the X/Y data points. Because .ISPD is a closed, binary format designed for instrument control, generic online converters fail to read the spectral arrays.
