A .ISP file typically represents a PLC project created by Delta Electronics ISPSoft, a development environment for programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). These files act as containers for the entire automation logic, including Ladder Diagrams (LD), Sequential Function Charts (SFC), and Structured Text (ST), along with hardware configurations and variable lists.
The primary challenge with .ISP files is their proprietary nature; they are strictly locked to the ISPSoft ecosystem. You cannot open them in standard text editors or generic CAD viewers. Engineers often face version mismatch errors where a file saved in a newer version of ISPSoft refuses to open in an older one. Furthermore, sharing logic with maintenance staff or clients who lack the software installation is impossible without conversion.
For documentation and archiving, the most practical workflow is converting the project logic to PDF. This captures the visual ladder logic and comments in a universal format. For data migration, exporting variable tables to CSV or XLSX is common.
Note: A minority of .ISP files may be legacy IIS Internet Service Provider settings (text-based) or binary firmware for Samsung image processors. These are distinct formats incompatible with PLC software.
