Convert a file to DWL2

To convert other file formats to the "Temporary Lock File" file type, you need software like Autodesk AutoCAD or a similar tool.

About DWL2 files

A .DWL2 file is a temporary XML-based lock file generated automatically by Autodesk AutoCAD whenever a DWG drawing is opened. Its primary purpose is to prevent file conflicts in multi-user environments by broadcasting "Who has this file open?" to the network.

Users often encounter .DWL2 files after a software crash or system freeze, mistakenly believing they contain the lost drawing data. This is a critical misunderstanding: .DWL2 files do not contain vector graphics, layers, or 3D models. They only store metadata text - specifically the active User Name, Computer Name, and IP Address. Consequently, you cannot "convert" a .DWL2 to PDF, JPG, or DXF because there is no visual data to render.

Best Handling Practices:

Convert.Guru analyzes your DWL2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DWL, DWG, DW2, BAK, PDF, GEDCOM, DOCX, SV$, RAR, TSX, CRDOWNLOAD, PRNX and ZIP files.
