About IPD files
An .IPD file is predominantly a legacy backup archive generated by BlackBerry Desktop Software to store a snapshot of a BlackBerry smartphone's internal data. This database format encapsulates contacts, SMS text messages, calendar appointments, and system settings for devices running BlackBerry OS 7 or older. Less commonly, the .IPD extension is utilized for packaging design CAD drawings within Arden Software Impact, and as an XML-based Image Process Data file in medical and dental systems like Dentsply Sirona Sidexis or Philips IntelliSpace Portal (storing DICOM Presentation States). The primary disadvantage of the traditional BlackBerry .IPD format is its absolute obsolescence. The format is heavily proprietary, utilizing a closed database structure that modern operating systems cannot natively read. Because Research In Motion (now BlackBerry) transitioned away from this architecture over a decade ago, extracting historical personal data often requires hunting down untrusted, outdated third-party extraction tools. Similarly, the CAD and medical variants of this file lock your data behind expensive, highly specialized enterprise software platforms. To liberate your data, you must convert the file.
