Extract text from InDesign templates (INDT)

The .INDT file extension represents an Adobe InDesign Template. Professional graphic designers use these templates to store standardized layout grids, typography styles, and master pages for brochures, magazines, and books. This allows teams to generate multiple consistent INDD documents without overwriting the original design framework.
The biggest disadvantage of the .INDT format is its heavily proprietary nature. Opening, editing, or viewing these files requires a paid Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Furthermore, .INDT files rarely contain all their visual data; they rely on locally installed fonts and externally linked high-resolution images. If shared without properly packaging these assets, the recipient will experience severe layout errors. The format is also completely unsupported by web browsers and standard image viewers.
If you need to share a template with clients or non-designers, you should convert the .INDT file to PDF for universal, read-only viewing. To ensure compatibility with older InDesign versions or alternative desktop publishing software like Affinity Publisher, the file must be converted to IDML (InDesign Markup Language).
Because .INDT is a closed, proprietary format heavily dependent on Adobe's rendering engine, standard online converters often fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the complex layout data.
