The .imp file is a highly fragmented format used for completely different data types across multiple industries. The most common variation is a Tally Data Import Log generated by Tally ERP, which stores plain text or UTF-16 encoded data logs. The main disadvantage of the .imp format is its extreme fragmentation. Because dozens of unrelated applications use the exact same extension, operating systems do not know which program to use to open it. Opening a file blindly is a gamble. Furthermore, navigation system and dental scanner files are proprietary and binary, making them impossible to read without the exact original software. Accounting logs and tax data are highly specific and difficult to share with non-users without specialized software.
You must first analyze the file to understand its true format. If the file is a text-based log (like Tally data) or an accounting export (like Sage 50 or Senior Sistemas ERP), you can view it directly or convert it to TXT or CSV for data extraction in spreadsheet software.
