Extract text from IncrediMail messages (IMM)

To convert other file formats to the "Email Mailbox File" file type, you need software like IncrediMail or a similar tool.
The .imm file extension most commonly functions as an email message data file or mailbox used by discontinued or legacy email servers and clients, notably IncrediMail and Ipswitch iMail Server. These files store batches of emails, including raw text, message headers, and MIME-encoded attachments. A secondary, highly technical use for .imm files is as Microscopy Imaging Session files generated by Media Cybernetics Image-Pro, which uses a Microsoft Compound internal structure to store complex scientific imaging data. Additionally, NTT DATA intra-mart uses .imm as an application module, which is internally just a renamed ZIP archive.
For email users, the .imm format is a significant problem because IncrediMail officially shut down in 2020. The format is effectively dead, proprietary, and fundamentally unsupported by modern clients like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. It locks users out of their own historical email data. For the microscopy and intra-mart variants, the files are highly proprietary and useless without installing the exact original enterprise software.
Users typically need to convert email .imm files to standard EML, MBOX, or PST formats to successfully import them into modern mail clients, or into PDF for permanent archival reading.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open because it often lacks a standard file header, and the primary software is permanently discontinued. Most standard online converters fail to process it because it requires specialized mailbox parsing. If our analysis detects the underlying MIME structure of an email or the ZIP container of an intra-mart file, viewing the raw text or extracting the embedded content may still be possible.
