About IMF files
The .imf file format is highly fragmented, most commonly representing IncrediMail E-card files, Goodnotes digital note-taking page data, or renamed PNG image files from Illusion Soft games. For IncrediMail, it stores interactive multimedia content known as the Interactive Multimedia Format. For Goodnotes, it acts as a proprietary container for page layouts, handwriting vectors, and metadata. Other legacy systems, including Imperva security software, id Software (Id Music File), and early Canon RAW images, also generated files with this extension. The primary disadvantage of the .imf file is its proprietary, undocumented, and often obsolete nature. IncrediMail was permanently shut down in 2020, making native e-cards nearly impossible to open without installing legacy, unsupported clients that pose security risks. Meanwhile, Goodnotes files are locked into the Apple ecosystem and require specific app versions to view or edit, preventing easy sharing with Windows or Android users. To regain access to data trapped in these formats, conversion is practically mandatory. For archiving IncrediMail media or Goodnotes content, convert to PDF to permanently preserve the visual layout and text. For game textures or Canon RAW files, convert to PNG or JPG for universal web compatibility and image editing.

The IMF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IMF converter.
