Convert HPT to another file type
To convert HPT Tune files to another format, you need VCM Suite or other Data software.
Convert a file to HPT
To convert other file formats to the "ECU Calibration File" file type, you need software like VCM Suite or a similar tool.
About HPT files
An .HPT file is primarily an Automotive ECU tune file used by the HP Tuners VCM Suite. Mechanics, calibration engineers, and car enthusiasts use these files to store engine and transmission parameter changes. They contain detailed lookup tables for fuel delivery, ignition timing, and boost pressure. A secondary, much less common use for the .HPT extension is for structural analysis design models in LIRA-SAPR or as HotDocs PDF templates.
The main disadvantage of the .HPT format is its strictly proprietary nature. You cannot simply double-click an .HPT file to read its contents. Opening it natively requires the expensive VCM Editor software, and flashing it to a vehicle requires a connected MPVI OBDII interface device. The data is locked inside a proprietary structure, meaning standard text editors or hex editors cannot easily parse the tuning tables without specialized definition files. Furthermore, engine control units require precise checksum calculations. If you try to manually edit the raw data outside the ecosystem, the vehicle will likely fail to start.
Users frequently want to convert .HPT files to standard raw BIN files to use them in other professional tuning software like WinOLS or TunerPro. Alternatively, exporting table data to CSV is highly requested for spreadsheet analysis and graphing.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format designed to protect tuning intellectual property and ensure safe flashing, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read, calculate checksums, or export the data safely. Our tool inspects the binary file to show text strings or internal metadata. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, extracting data or partial conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HPT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HPT file to BIN, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9, PM10, PM11 or OMP, you can use VCM Suite or similar software from the "Automotive ECU Tuning Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to HPT, try VCM Suite or another comparable tool in the "Automotive ECU Tuning Data" category.
The HPT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HPT converter.
