About HPT files
The .HPT file extension is primarily associated with HP Tuners, serving as the proprietary container for automotive Engine Control Unit (ECU) and Transmission Control Unit (TCU) calibration data. These files are the lifeblood of modern vehicle tuning, storing the complex tables and parameters read from a vehicle's computer via the MPVI hardware interface. The frustrating part for users is the strict digital rights management (DRM); .HPT files are often locked to specific hardware serial numbers or require "Universal Credits" to license and flash, making casual sharing or viewing difficult without the paid HP Tuners VCM Suite. They are not simple text files and cannot be edited in standard hex editors without first being "unlocked" or exported.
In a completely different sector, .HPT files are used by LIRA-SAPR (and occasionally branded under Hobbyplotter) as structural analysis design models or 3D vector templates. For these users, the goal is often interoperability with CAD systems. While you cannot directly convert a locked HP Tuners file to a raw binary (BIN) without the authorized software, you can export data logs to CSV for analysis in Microsoft Excel. For LIRA-SAPR models, the typical conversion target is DXF or IFC for use in AutoCAD.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HPT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted BIN, HPL, CTZ, VBF, TXT, ZIP, PDF, EXE, C2 and GRG files.
The HPT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HPT converter.
