About C2 files
A .C2 file typically serves one of two distinct scientific purposes. Most commonly, it is a Paleoenvironmental Data Analysis file created by the C2 software. Biologists and geologists use this format to store complex ecological datasets, such as diatom counts and pollen stratigraphic diagrams. Alternatively, in RF engineering, a .C2 file is a WinCal Calibration file used by WinCal XE to store measurement offsets and error coefficients for testing instruments. The main disadvantage of the .C2 format is that it is highly proprietary and extremely niche. Users frequently need to convert these files because standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel cannot natively open or read them. Without access to the original legacy software, your research or calibration data is effectively locked away, making peer review or data migration nearly impossible. For ecological datasets, the best conversion targets are CSV or XLSX files, which allow you to manipulate the raw tabular data in modern tools. However, exporting to a spreadsheet means you will lose the specific visual settings and stratigraphic diagrams generated by the original software. Because the .C2 format uses undocumented, closed internal structures, it is incredibly difficult for standard online converters to process.
