About HPL files

An .HPL file is most commonly a vehicle performance data log created by the HP Tuners VCM Scanner software. Mechanics and automotive tuners use these files to record engine metrics like RPM, ignition timing, and air-fuel ratios during test drives or dyno sessions. Alternatively, the .HPL extension is frequently used for Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (HP-GL or HP-GL/2) plotter files, which contain 2D vector graphics instructions for CAD printing. Minor uses include job files for Hilti PROFIS Anchoring and Doppler Lidar data for Halo Photonics WindPRO software. As a vehicle log, the .HPL format is strictly proprietary and highly restricted. You cannot open it natively in standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel without first exporting the data. Similarly, .HPL plotter files are legacy formats that are not supported by modern web browsers or standard image viewers, making them incredibly difficult to share with clients or colleagues. For vehicle data logs, the best workaround is converting the .HPL file to a .CSV file so the telemetry can be graphed and analyzed in standard spreadsheet tools. For CAD plotter files, you should convert .HPL to .PDF or .SVG for standard vector viewing without losing quality, or to .PNG for quick raster sharing. This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard online tools fail to decode the proprietary binary structures of tuning logs or distinguish them from legacy ASCII plotter instructions. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HPL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted HLP, HPL30, HPT, PNG, TMP, PWB and GX files.

The HPL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HPL converter.
