About GTO files
The .gto extension primarily stands for Gerber Top Overlay. It is a standard 2D vector image format used in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing to define the top silkscreen layer. This layer contains the text, reference designators, component outlines, and logos printed on the top surface of a physical PCB. Less commonly, a .gto file is a poker game tree output file generated by GTO+ for Game Theory Optimal poker calculations. To open Gerber .gto files, engineers use Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software like Altium Designer, Autodesk EAGLE, or dedicated Gerber viewers. The Gerber standard is maintained by Ucamco. The main disadvantage of .gto files is their highly specialized nature. They are plain ASCII text files containing machine instructions written in the RS-274X standard. Standard image viewers, web browsers, and office applications cannot render them. Sending a raw .gto file to clients or non-engineers is useless because they will lack the specialized EDA software required to view the silkscreen design. To fix this, you must convert the file. For client reviews, documentation, or archiving, convert .gto to PDF. For mechanical integration, convert it to DXF. For quick web sharing, convert to PNG or SVG.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GTO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GTO file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Altium Designer or similar software from the "PCB Top Silkscreen Layer Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to GTO, try Altium Designer or another comparable tool in the "PCB Top Silkscreen Layer Data" category.
The GTO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GTO converter.
