About GTM files
The .GTM file format is most commonly a GPS TrackMaker Data File. Created by Geo Studio Technology, this format stores waypoints, tracklogs, and routes captured by GPS devices. Secondary uses include system simulation models for Gamma Technologies GT-SUITE, which are often structured as .XML, and geometry mesh files for ANSYS Fluent Gambit. The main disadvantage of a standard .GTM file is its proprietary nature. It is heavily tied to the Windows-only GPS TrackMaker software. You cannot open it natively on smartphones, modern web mapping services, or directly inside Google Earth. Users often find themselves stuck with an unreadable file if they do not have the exact legacy software installed. To make the data useful, you must convert it. The best target formats are .GPX (GPS Exchange Format) for maximum compatibility with modern devices like Garmin, or .KML for viewing in Google Earth. Converting away from .GTM might drop software-specific styling, but core geographic coordinates will transfer safely. Because .GTM is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters often fail to process it. Usually, only the original software can properly read or export the binary map data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like the .XML structure of GT-SUITE simulation files, viewing or conversion may still be highly successful.
