About GCZ files
A .GCZ file typically represents one of two distinct compressed formats, both of which often confuse users due to their specific software dependencies.
Most commonly, it is a data container used by Gestion Concours, a specialized application for managing Pétanque tournaments. In this context, the file is simply a 7z archive that has been renamed to lock it to the software. Users attempting to access the internal database or backup files will find standard archivers like WinRAR or 7-Zip fail to detect it automatically unless the extension is manually changed to 7z.
Alternatively, a .GCZ file is a "GameCube Zip" image, a legacy compressed format used by the Dolphin Emulator for running Nintendo GameCube and Wii games. While this format saves disk space compared to raw ISO files, it is largely obsolete. It is read-only (unsuitable for modding) and has been superseded by the more efficient RVZ format. Users looking to play these games on original hardware or different emulators often need to convert these back to a standard ISO or GCM file to ensure compatibility.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GCZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GCZ file to ISO, WBFS, RVZ, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA or CAB, you can use 7-Zip or similar software from the "Compressed Data Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to GCZ, try 7-Zip or another comparable tool in the "Compressed Data Archive" category.
The GCZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCZ converter.
