About GCT files
The .GCT file format serves two completely different technical purposes. It is commonly a Wii/GameCube Cheat Code File used by homebrew engines like Gecko OS or Ocarina to inject hex codes into a game's memory. Alternatively, in the field of bioinformatics, it functions as a Gene Expression Data Matrix utilized by GenePattern and GSEA (Gene Set Enrichment Analysis), maintained by the Broad Institute. Both variations suffer from severe usability limits. The Wii cheat variant is a compiled binary format that requires discontinued legacy software to open and edit. The bioinformatics variant is a rigidly formatted, tab-delimited text file that often breaks if whitespace is misaligned, causing import failures in standard spreadsheet tools. To effectively manage this data, you must convert it. For biological data analysis, convert .GCT to CSV or XLSX for safe opening in Microsoft Excel.
