Convert GCT to another file type
To convert your GCT file to another format, you need Gecko Code Manager or other Game software.
Convert a file to GCT
To convert other file formats to the "Cheat Code Binary" file type, you need software like Gecko Code Manager or a similar tool.
About GCT files
The .GCT file extension represents two distinct formats: a binary cheat code file for Nintendo consoles and a text-based gene expression matrix for bioinformatics.
1. Gecko Cheat Table (Gaming): primarily used by the Gecko cheat engine, Ocarina, and Nintendont on Nintendo Wii and GameCube homebrew. This file is a compiled binary container that stores active cheat codes (infinite lives, unlockables). Because it is binary, users cannot open or edit it in a standard text editor. To modify cheats, the .GCT file must be converted back to a TXT format using tools like Gecko Code Manager or Dolphin emulator. It requires a strict naming convention (e.g., RMCE01.gct) to function.
2. Gene Cluster Text (Bioinformatics): used by the Broad Institute's GenePattern and GSEA software. This is a tab-delimited text file containing gene expression datasets, characterized by a specific version header (e.g., #1.2) and dimension data. While human-readable, researchers often convert it to CSV or XLSX for analysis in Microsoft Excel or R. A common issue is Excel's tendency to corrupt gene symbols (auto-converting 'MARCH1' to dates), making careful conversion essential.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GCT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GCT file to TXT, CSV, ISO, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF or DAT, you can use Gecko Code Manager or similar software from the "Nintendo Cheat Codes" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GCT, try Gecko Code Manager or another comparable tool in the "Nintendo Cheat Codes" category.
The GCT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCT converter.
