About FXB files

The .FXB file format primarily functions as a VST Synthesizer Preset Bank used within the Steinberg VST (Virtual Studio Technology) standard. These files store a complete collection or "bank" of presets, effects, and parameter settings for specific audio plugins. Audio engineers and producers use .FXB files to save and load multiple instrument sounds or audio effect configurations at once within Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Ableton Live, FL Studio, or Steinberg Cubase. A secondary, less common use for .FXB files is as a renamed JPG image generated by certain legacy Sony Cyber-shot digital cameras.

The major disadvantage of the .FXB format is its strict plugin dependency. An .FXB file created for one specific synthesizer (like Sylenth1) is entirely useless in another (like Serum). The binary data inside maps directly to the proprietary DSP architecture of the original plugin. Furthermore, modern VST3 plugins have largely abandoned the .FXB standard in favor of the newer VSTPRESET format, making older files difficult to open in modern software without legacy wrappers.

Direct conversion of VST banks is notoriously difficult. You cannot convert an .FXB file into an audio file like WAV or MP3 because it contains mathematical settings, not actual audio data. You can sometimes extract individual presets as FXP files, or migrate them to VSTPRESET. If the file is a Sony Cyber-shot image, the best conversion target is a standard JPG.

Because .FXB files are proprietary binary blobs mapped to specific audio algorithms, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original plugin can properly read or export the data. Our analysis can extract readable text like preset names or detect if an underlying JPG image is embedded, allowing you to easily salvage your data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FXB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FBX, FXP, PDF, ZIP, MP3, JPG, HSB, CPR and CD files.
