Extract text from Firmware update files (FW2)

The .FW2 file extension has two entirely separate use cases. Historically, it serves as a data file for Ashton-Tate Framework II, a 1980s integrated office suite, or as an early WordPerfect 2.0 text document. In modern computing, .FW2 is predominantly used as a proprietary firmware update package for various hardware devices, including agriculture systems by Ag Leader Technology, Silicon Labs embedded devices, and Dream Multimedia satellite receivers. In many firmware cases, the file is simply a standard ZIP archive wrapped in a custom extension.
The primary disadvantage of .FW2 files is severe incompatibility. The legacy document variants are dead formats; modern word processors cannot open them natively, locking away valuable archived data behind obsolete binary structures. The firmware variants are highly device-specific, cryptic, and often require proprietary flasher software like FlashWizard or MKA Composer. They offer zero utility for cross-platform sharing or inspection.
For archival purposes, you must convert legacy document .FW2 files to PDF/A or plain TXT to ensure the text remains accessible. If the file is a compressed firmware container, converting or extracting it to a standard ZIP allows you to inspect the internal binaries.
