About DOCENX files
A .DOCENX file is not a standard document format you can simply open or edit; it is a critical indicator that your files have been taken hostage. Specifically, this extension is appended to files - often original Microsoft Word documents - that have been encrypted by the Dharma (also known as Crysis) ransomware family.
The core problem is accessibility: the file structure has been scrambled using strong encryption algorithms (typically AES or RSA), making the content completely unreadable to standard word processors or text editors. You will likely find these files accompanied by a ransom note (often a TXT or HTM file) demanding payment for a private decryption key.
Warning: Renaming the extension back to DOCX will not work and may corrupt the file header further. Genuine conversion requires a two-step process: first, decryption using specific security tools or restoration from an offline backup (e.g., Acronis Cyber Protect), and second, once the file is restored to its original format (like DOCX or XLSX), it can be handled normally. For archiving restored data to a non-editable format to prevent future modification, converting to PDF/A is recommended.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DOCENX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DOCENX file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Dharma Ransomware or similar software from the "Ransomware Encrypted File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to DOCENX, try Dharma Ransomware or another comparable tool in the "Ransomware Encrypted File" category.
The DOCENX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DOCENX converter.
