About FRX files

An .FRX file serves different purposes depending on the developer ecosystem. It is primarily used as a binary form resource file in Microsoft Visual Basic, a report layout file in Visual FoxPro, or an XML-based report definition in FastReport .NET. In Visual Basic, it stores binary elements like images and icons that cannot be saved in plain text alongside the main .FRM file. In FoxPro and FastReport, it dictates how database information is formatted for printing. The main disadvantage of the .FRX format is its severe reliance on legacy and proprietary environments. Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual FoxPro are obsolete, meaning you cannot open these binary files on a modern operating system without a virtual machine or specialized legacy IDEs. They are entirely unreadable by web browsers or standard office software. Attempting to share an .FRX file with a client or colleague usually results in an unopenable file error, making collaboration impossible without conversion. To make this data usable, conversion is strictly required. For archiving or sharing fixed report layouts, convert .FRX to .PDF to ensure the design remains intact on any device. If you are migrating legacy databases or extracting structured report logic, convert to .XML or .CSV, though visual formatting will be lost in exchange for raw data access. For web use, exporting graphic assets to .PNG or .JPG is best.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FRX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FRT, FRAX, FRM, PDF, FR3, RDL, FXR, DOC, FPX, PNG, XLS, ZIP and DBF files.
