Extract text from Planner or thermal image files (FPF)

The .FPF file extension is most commonly associated with IKEA Home Planner, a discontinued 3D room design tool used to plan kitchen layouts. A secondary, highly technical application for .FPF is the FLIR Public Image Format, which stores radiometric thermal imaging data captured by FLIR cameras. Other industrial uses include vehicle trip logs for Triplogik Fleet Plus, XML-based CCTV pipeline survey data (PACP standard), and Ricoh digital camera firmware updates.
Because these files are strictly proprietary or rely on discontinued software, they present significant challenges. The IKEA Home Planner is obsolete, meaning users are often stuck with legacy design files they cannot natively open on modern operating systems or the current web-based IKEA planner. FLIR files require expensive specialized software, like FLIR Tools, to interpret the complex embedded temperature metadata.
Standard online converters fail to process .FPF files because they lack a universal file structure. If you need to recover an IKEA kitchen design, your best bet is running a legacy version of the software in a virtual machine and exporting it to a generic 3D format like DXF, though textures are usually lost. For FLIR files, exporting to a standard JPG or PNG destroys the underlying radiometric data, reducing the file to a flat color map.
