About FDF files
The .FDF (Forms Data Format) file is a data storage format created by Adobe. It contains only the text data extracted from an interactive PDF form. Instead of saving the entire document layout, graphics, and fonts, an .FDF file stores only the values entered into the text fields. This format is widely used by Adobe Acrobat to export and import form submissions efficiently. The biggest disadvantage of the .FDF format is its absolute dependency on the original PDF. If you open an .FDF file without the base form, you will only see raw text syntax or encounter an error. This creates massive friction when sharing forms with users who do not have professional PDF software. The format is also completely unsupported by modern web browsers natively, making quick previews impossible. To make this data usable, you must convert it. For sending a completed, locked document, convert the .FDF to a flattened PDF. If you need to analyze hundreds of form submissions, extract and convert the .FDF data to CSV, XML, or TXT. Note that a very rare secondary use is the Origin Fitting Function Definition file used by OriginLab to store mathematical formulas for data analysis.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FDF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FDF file to PDF, TEXT, CSV, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX or MD, you can use Adobe Acrobat or similar software from the "Form Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to FDF, try Adobe Acrobat or another comparable tool in the "Form Data Storage" category.
The FDF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FDF converter.
