The format handles frame-by-frame graphics using an early form of delta compression, meaning it only records the pixels that change from one frame to the next. Users must convert .FLIC files because the format is practically dead. Modern operating systems, smartphones, and web browsers lack the native codecs to display them. Furthermore, the format is severely limited by modern standards: it is permanently restricted to an 8-bit palette (256 colors maximum) and cannot contain any audio data.
