Extract text from FastCAD map and whiteboard files (FCW)
To convert FCW files to another format, you need FastCAD or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "2D CAD Drawing File" file type, you need software like FastCAD or a similar tool.
The .FCW file extension is most commonly a FastCAD Windows Drawing file. It is used natively by FastCAD and heavily customized by ProFantasy Campaign Cartographer to store 2D vector maps, specifically for tabletop RPGs, fantasy worlds, and architectural drafts. A smaller fraction of .FCW files are Fluid Concepts Whiteboard or SMART Technologies whiteboard sessions, which are actually renamed ZIP archives containing lesson data. An even smaller subset relates to Baker Hughes Flow Control Workbench as an XML project file.
The primary disadvantage of the FastCAD .FCW format is its highly proprietary nature. It is not supported by standard web browsers, requires a paid software license to open natively, and is notoriously difficult to share with non-CAD users. Because Campaign Cartographer injects custom symbols and macros into the .FCW file, opening these files in generic CAD software often results in missing textures, broken references, and unreadable layers.
To make these maps usable, users must usually convert them. The best target formats are DXF or DWG for editing in other CAD programs like AutoCAD, or PDF, PNG, and JPG for sharing, publishing, and printing. Converting to raster formats like PNG will permanently lose the scalable vector data.
Because the .FCW map format is closed and proprietary, standard online converters usually fail to process it without the original software engine. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as the ZIP-based whiteboard sessions or XML-based Flow Control files - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
