The .FCW extension primarily identifies FastCAD Windows drawings, a vector file format associated with FastCAD and the popular map-making suite, Campaign Cartographer 3+. These files store intricate vector geometry, layers, and symbol references used for technical schematics or fantasy role-playing game (RPG) maps. A secondary, less common use (approx. 11%) is for interactive whiteboard sessions used by educational software like Fluid Concepts.
The main challenge with .FCW files is their strict proprietary lock-in. Unlike open formats, they require the specific engine they were created with to render correctly - trying to open a Campaign Cartographer map in standard AutoCAD often results in errors or missing assets.
