About EZT files
The .EZT extension primarily identifies proprietary project files created by EZTitles, a high-end software suite for professional subtitling and closed captioning. Unlike the universal SRT or VTT formats, an .EZT file is not a simple text file you can open in Notepad; it acts as a container for the entire subtitling workspace. This includes reading speed parameters, shot change detection data, safe area settings, and proprietary formatting rules that standard media players cannot interpret.
A significant minority of .EZT files are character stroke animations generated by eStroke, an educational tool for visualizing Chinese calligraphy sequences.
The main catch with .EZT files is their lack of interoperability. You cannot upload an .EZT directly to YouTube, Vimeo, or streaming platforms like Netflix. To make the content usable, subtitle projects must be converted to WebVTT (vtt) for HTML5 video, SubRip (srt) for general compatibility, or EBU-STL for broadcast delivery. For eStroke animations, the only practical way to share them is by converting the vector data into a standard video format like MP4 or an animated GIF.

The EZT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EZT converter.
