About ET files
A .ET file is primarily known as a WPS Spreadsheet, the native format of the WPS Office suite created by Kingsoft. While designed to be a free alternative to XLS and XLSX, these files rely on a proprietary structure (often a Microsoft Compound binary container) that is a major drawback outside the WPS ecosystem. Users frequently encounter compatibility errors when attempting to open .ET files in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, ranging from broken formulas and missing charts to complete failure to open the file. This format acts as a barrier to collaboration, forcing recipients to install specific software just to view data. To resolve this, converting the file is standard practice.
