Convert ETH to another file type
To convert ETH capture files to another format, you need Wireshark or other Data software.
Convert a file to ETH
To convert other file formats to the "Network Capture Trace" file type, you need software like Wireshark or a similar tool.
About ETH files
The .eth file is primarily a network packet capture trace generated by AVM FRITZ!Box routers to log local network traffic. Network administrators use a hidden diagnostic interface on these routers to record incoming and outgoing Ethernet packets for troubleshooting connections, VoIP issues, or security anomalies. These raw logs are saved to the user's computer as .eth files and are generally intended to be analyzed using advanced network protocol analyzers like Wireshark. The main disadvantage of the .eth format is its obscure extension. While the internal data is often formatted as a standard packet capture, the unique file extension prevents most standard IT tools, web browsers, and basic text editors from recognizing the file. Users frequently encounter 'unsupported format' errors when trying to share these traces with external IT support or security teams. To overcome these limitations, the best conversion targets are universally supported packet capture formats like PCAP or PCAPNG. For non-technical analysis, exporting the packet summaries to TXT or CSV is highly recommended, though this will result in the loss of raw binary packet payloads. Because packet dumps contain complex, proprietary network traces, they can be difficult to open natively without dedicated network software. If our analysis detects a supported underlying standard, viewing or conversion to common network formats may still be possible. A very small percentage of .eth files are Ether Source Code Files used by the Zoerf framework, which are simple plain text files.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ETH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ETH file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use Wireshark or similar software from the "Network Packet Capture" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to ETH, try Wireshark or another comparable tool in the "Network Packet Capture" category.
The ETH Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ETH converter.
