The .EL file extension serves multiple completely different technical purposes. Most traditionally, it represents Emacs Lisp source code, a dialect of the Lisp programming language used to extend and customize the GNU Emacs text editor. However, in the hardware enthusiast space, .EL files are extensively used as Bafang e-bike motor configuration files, storing exact hardware parameters like pedal assist levels and current limits.
Other software ecosystems also generate .EL files. These include EurekaLog for application crash logs formatted as UTF-16 LE, elMubashir for compiled Lua script packages, and StreamSets Data Collector which uses ZIP-based data processing stream logic.
