About ETF files
The .ETF file extension is heavily fragmented and used for entirely different purposes across various industries. Primarily, it functions as an Engine Parameter Template used by Cummins PowerSpec to store engine tuning configurations. Alternatively, it serves as an Enigma Transportable File for MakeMusic Finale music notation software, an Annotation Template for ELAN, an encrypted data file for Tencent PC Manager, or even a proprietary DVR video recording from EverFocus.
The massive disadvantage of the .ETF format is this exact fragmentation. Because it is a proprietary or specialized container, standard online converters completely fail to process it. You cannot simply share a Finale music project with someone who doesn't pay for the software, and DVR files from EverFocus require a highly specific player, trapping your video data in an unplayable format.
Ideally, users need to convert these files to universally readable formats. Finale files should be exported to MusicXML, PDF, or MIDI for sharing. For Cummins or ELAN files, which are actually renamed ZIP and XML files under the hood, simple extraction or text viewing is the goal. For EverFocus video, converting to standard MP4 is necessary for playback.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because multiple unrelated programs claim the exact same extension. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our analysis can inspect the file's internal headers, and if it detects a supported underlying structure - like a standard ZIP archive or XML data - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ETF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ETF file to PDF, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN or LOG, you can use Cummins PowerSpec or similar software from the "Engine Parameter Template" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The ETF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ETF converter.
