About ES3 files
The .es3 file extension represents two distinct but technical file types that often create compatibility challenges for users.
Most commonly, an .es3 file is a game data archive generated by Easy Save 3, a popular serialization asset for the Unity game engine. These files store player progress, inventory configurations, and application states. While they are fundamentally data containers, they are frequently compressed (Gzip), encrypted, or serialized into binary formats to prevent tampering. This makes them unreadable in standard text editors, frustrating gamers attempting to modify save states or developers debugging storage issues. To edit or view this data, users typically convert the file to raw JSON or plain Text, allowing for modification before re-serializing.
Alternatively, in Hungary and select European sectors, .es3 refers to an e-dossier created by Microsec e-Szignó. These are legally binding electronic signature containers (similar to a digital envelope) that bundle signed documents, timestamps, and revocation information. The main disadvantage is that recipients without the specific e-Szignó client cannot view the agreements or invoices contained within. For accessibility and archiving, these files should be converted or extracted to standard PDF documents or XML structures.

The ES3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ES3 converter.
