About ES2 files

The .ES2 file is an E-Prime 2 experiment script used by researchers to design and run computerized behavioral psychology experiments. Created using E-Studio (part of the E-Prime suite by Psychology Software Tools), these files store experiment parameters, trial structures, stimulus timing, and logging settings. A major disadvantage of the .ES2 format is its proprietary nature. While E-Prime guarantees millisecond precision for experiment execution, the software requires expensive licensing and a specific Windows environment. This creates severe friction when sharing experimental designs with colleagues, peer reviewers, or students who do not own the software. Furthermore, .ES2 files cannot natively run on web browsers or macOS, locking your research into a restrictive ecosystem. Because the underlying architecture of an .ES2 file is XML, conversion and data extraction are highly beneficial.
