Extract text from Premiere Pro export presets (EPR)

The .EPR file extension is most commonly an Adobe Premiere Pro Export Preset file. These files store specific video and audio encoding parameters - such as target resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and codec choices - used by Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder to render video projects. Under the hood, an .EPR file is simply structured XML data.
Because .EPR is a proprietary preset container, you cannot natively view the exact rendering parameters without launching heavy, subscription-based Adobe software. This is highly inconvenient if you just need to verify a target bitrate or codec specification on a device without an expensive Creative Cloud subscription. Furthermore, these files frequently face version compatibility issues; presets saved in a 2024 release often refuse to load in a 2023 release. For reading the settings natively without Adobe software, convert your .EPR to standard XML or TXT. If you need to programmatically parse the preset data for a custom workflow, converting to JSON is highly recommended. Note that converting to plain text extracts the settings for easy viewing, but you will need the original .EPR file to actually apply the preset inside a video editor. Less commonly, .EPR files may also function as proprietary project files for EPLAN Electric P8 or eXtreme Picture Finder.
