In software development and gaming, it also frequently serves as an English language localization file, typically structured in XML or plain text.
Opening these files depends heavily on their origin. Encrypted PDFs generally require authorized readers like Adobe Acrobat Reader alongside correct login credentials or DRM tokens. Fernet files require the original Python script and symmetric key to decrypt. Conversely, English localization files can be opened in basic text editors.
The primary disadvantage of an encrypted .en file is its strict access limitation. It is essentially locked data that cannot be accessed, indexed, or shared without the exact decryption key.
