A .cca file generally belongs to one of several deeply proprietary and outdated formats. Most frequently, it functions as a legacy email database for the discontinued IBM Lotus cc:Mail system. Alternatively, it is utilized as a game project file by Clickteam Click & Create (or Multimedia Fusion), an email archive for Novell GroupWise, or a closed caption project file managed by Telestream MacCaption.
Working with .cca files is extremely challenging today. Because they are closed and proprietary, standard file viewers and modern operating systems cannot open them natively. For email databases, the lack of modern software support means you cannot simply import a .cca file into Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. Users are often forced to seek out costly, specialized forensic data recovery software just to extract old communications into modern formats like PST, MBOX, or EML.
For the game project variants, the files are compiled binaries. You cannot open or convert a Clickteam .cca file without the legacy software it was built in. If you have a Telestream MacCaption .cca file, you must export it via the original software to a universal caption format like SRT or VTT.
