About CCA files

The .cca file extension represents a collision of legacy standards, most frequently functioning as a cc:Mail Archive database. Originally developed by Lotus (later acquired by IBM), this format locks critical business communication history inside a proprietary binary database that modern clients like Microsoft Outlook cannot natively read. Users often encounter these files during server migrations or legal discovery, discovering that the data is inaccessible without specialized middleware.

Alternatively, a .cca file may be a project source file created by Click and Create, the predecessor to the modern Clickteam Fusion game engine. In this context, the file contains multimedia assets, logic, and sprites.

A third distinct use case is within the broadcast industry, where .cca serves as a project file for Telestream MacCaption. These files store closed captioning timing and text data but are not suitable for distribution.

The CCA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CCA converter.
