About EMT files
The .EMT file extension is highly fragmented and used across several distinct, specialized industries. Its most common use is as a BTS ASCII data file containing raw human motion analysis data tracked by BTS Bioengineering hardware. It is also frequently encountered as an Embroidery design template for Wilcom EmbroideryStudio, an email message template for marketing platforms like Salesforce Pardot and Marketo Engage, a Tencent QQ Emoticon, or a Bacs payment submission file generated by UK payroll software like Sage 50 Accounts.
The primary disadvantage of the .EMT format is its severe lack of interoperability. None of these formats can be opened by default operating system tools. BTS motion data files are proprietary ASCII dumps that can be difficult to parse without expensive biomechanical software. Wilcom templates use a legacy Microsoft Compound structure that completely locks users into a costly embroidery software ecosystem, making it impossible to preview stitch patterns in a web browser. Bacs payroll files are extremely strict; modifying them in a standard text editor can break the formatting and cause payment rejections at the bank.
To make these files usable, conversion is often necessary. BTS data is best converted or parsed to CSV or TXT for analysis in standard spreadsheet tools. Wilcom templates usually need to be exported to production machine formats like DST, PES, or EXP.
Standard online converters fail to process .EMT files because they cannot guess which of the five different formats your specific file actually is. Furthermore, these are mostly closed, proprietary formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EMT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The EMT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EMT converter.
