About EDDS files
The .EDDS file is a proprietary game texture format primarily used by the Enfusion Engine, developed by Bohemia Interactive. It is also heavily utilized within Entropia Universe. Modders and game developers typically manage these files using the official Enfusion Workbench or specialized community tools like EDDS Viewer. The major disadvantage of the .EDDS format is its deeply proprietary nature. Standard image viewers, operating systems, and web browsers completely fail to recognize it. Structurally, it acts as an encoded or specifically compressed container for standard DDS (DirectDraw Surface) data, optimized strictly for fast in-engine rendering. Because the file headers and compression methods are exclusive to the specific game engine, standard online image converters cannot parse the data. Modders frequently need to convert these files to extract game assets, re-texture 3D models, or simply view graphics outside the game engine. For compatibility with standard graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP, you must convert .EDDS to DDS, PNG, or TGA. While converting to PNG guarantees universal viewing compatibility, you will inevitably lose hardware-accelerated mipmaps and specialized GPU block compression (such as BC7) required by the game. This file format remains inherently difficult to open or convert because only the original developer software can properly read or export the encrypted texture data. If our system analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded standard format, viewing or conversion may still be fully possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your EDDS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert EDDS file to PNG, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use Enfusion Workbench or similar software from the "Game Texture Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to EDDS, try Enfusion Workbench or another comparable tool in the "Game Texture Storage" category.
The EDDS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EDDS converter.
