About EDD files
The .EDD extension is a 'fragmented' file type used by three distinct, incompatible software ecosystems.
Explain Everything Project: The most common use (approx. 20%) is a digital whiteboard project created by Explain Everything. These files function as containers for an infinite canvas, storing vector drawings, voice recordings, videos, and images. They are proprietary and cannot be opened by standard media players or document viewers. To share these files, users usually need to convert them into MP4 video (for playback) or PDF (for static handouts).
Richpeace Embroidery Data: Used by the Richpeace Embroidery Design System. These are industrial CAD files containing stitch instructions, vector outlines, and machine commands. They are incompatible with consumer embroidery machines (like Brother or Janome) unless converted to a standard format like DST or PES.
Syncfusion Diagram: A serialized data file from Syncfusion Essential Diagram. These contain flowchart nodes, connectors, and layout logic in a binary or XML structure. They are strictly for developer use within the .NET framework.
Common Friction Point: Users often receive an .EDD file expecting a simple image or document, only to find it requires specific, often expensive, software to open. The only reliable way to view the content is to identify the source application and use its 'Export' function to save the data as a standard PDF, PNG, or MP4.

The EDD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EDD converter.
