About EAP files

The .EAP extension primarily refers to Enterprise Architect Projects created by Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect, a premier UML modeling and lifecycle tool. While these files appear proprietary, they are technically Microsoft Jet Databases (Access .MDB format) renamed to .EAP. This legacy architecture is a common source of problems: users cannot view diagrams without the specific paid software or a dedicated viewer, and the file size can bloat rapidly.

For broader accessibility, users often need to convert .EAP files to PDF or HTML for documentation, or to XMI (XML Metadata Interchange) to migrate models to other tools like StarUML or MagicDraw. Newer versions of Enterprise Architect have shifted to the .QEA (SQLite) format to overcome the 2GB limit of the Jet engine.

A secondary, unrelated use of .EAP is the AXIS Camera Application Package. These are GZIP compressed archives used to install plugins on AXIS Network Cameras. Users facing these files often need to extract them to view the manifest or source code.

Convert.Guru analyzes your EAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EAPX, QEA, EAP-CONFIG, AEP, EA, KYS, JET, PDF, XML, X_T, ZIP, PLN and SLDDRW files.

The EAP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our EAP converter.
