About E2E files
The .E2E file format primarily functions as an ophthalmic examination data export created by medical devices from Heidelberg Engineering GmbH. These files store highly detailed optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans, retinal images, and patient metadata. Alternatively, an .E2E file may be an End-to-End trace log generated by the Microsoft .NET Framework to track Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) services, or a project exchange file for Nemetschek Allplan.
Professionals and patients need to convert these files because the Heidelberg format is strictly proprietary. You cannot open a medical .E2E file in a standard web browser or image viewer. Patients receiving these files from their eye doctors are often frustrated because the format requires the specialized, expensive Heidelberg Eye Explorer software. Furthermore, Microsoft trace logs, while technically XML under the hood, are often massive and difficult to parse without the Service Trace Viewer Tool.
For medical records, the best conversion targets are universal formats like PDF for clinical reports, or standard DICOM and JPG for extracting raw imaging. For Microsoft trace logs, converting to XML, CSV, or plain TXT makes the data accessible in any text editor.
Standard online converters routinely fail with medical .E2E files. The format is closed, highly proprietary, and sometimes encrypted to lock clinics into the manufacturer's ecosystem. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the patient data. We will identify the exact file format variant, inspect the internal structure, and show embedded text or raw XML. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your E2E file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The E2E Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our E2E converter.
