About RGD files

The .rgd file extension primarily represents a Raft Saved Game File developed by Redbeet Interactive. Built using the .NET framework, these files store player progress, inventory layouts, and world state data for the survival game Raft. Alternatively, a .rgd file functions as a Relic Game Data configuration file utilized by the Essence Engine from Relic Entertainment, which powers real-time strategy games like Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.

These formats are closed and highly proprietary. The main disadvantage of .rgd files is their total lack of interoperability. They are strictly optimized for their specific game engines. You cannot open a Raft save file in a standard spreadsheet or text editor; doing so will only display unintelligible binary data. Furthermore, there is no official standalone software designed to open or read these files natively, locking users out of modifying their own game data.

Gamers and modders typically want to convert these files to JSON, XML, or TXT to edit player stats, extract 3D asset paths, or modify core game behavior. However, standard online document converters fail entirely when processing these raw binary structures. For Relic engine files, players must rely on community-built third-party extractors designed specifically for the internal "Relic Chunky" container format.

Because this file format is heavily serialized, it is difficult to open or convert. Often, only the original game engine contains the specific logic required to deserialize the data properly. Even if standard conversion fails, we can inspect the file, extract embedded plaintext strings, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or data extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RGD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RDG, XPS, PYC, PKG, SIG, EXE, BIN, DXS, GAME and GAM files.

The RGD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RGD converter.
