About DOCUMENT files
A .document file is not a standard or proprietary file format. It is a generic, misnamed file typically generated by web browsers, misconfigured web servers, or mobile apps that fail to assign the correct extension during a download. Because the operating system lacks the correct extension, it does not know which application to use to open the file. Most often, these files are actually standard PDF documents, Microsoft WordDOCX files (which are technically ZIP archives), or common web images like PNG and JPG. The primary disadvantage of a .document file is the immediate loss of accessibility; double-clicking it usually results in an OS error requiring manual intervention. Standard online converters fail to process these files because they rely on the file extension to dictate the conversion engine. Our system analyzes the internal binary signatures (magic numbers) to detect the true underlying format. Once identified, you can easily rename the file to its correct extension or seamlessly convert it to other standard formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DOCUMENT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DOCUMENT file to PDF, JPG, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD or MARKDOWN, you can use File Explorer or similar software from the "Generic File Download Placeholder" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The DOCUMENT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DOCUMENT converter.
