About DO files
The .do file extension typically represents a Java-based web application URL mapping, usually generated by the Apache Struts framework. In most cases, everyday users encounter a .do file by accident. When downloading a bank statement, invoice, or report, a server misconfiguration forces the browser to save the URL routing script (e.g., download.do) instead of the actual file. Because of this, a .do file downloaded from the web is rarely a true executable. Its internal structure is usually a PDF, ZIP, JPG, or HTML document. This causes immediate frustration because standard operating systems do not know how to open it, often prompting an error. Separately, .do is the native script format for Stata, a commercial statistical software package developed by StataCorp. In this context, it is a plain text file containing batch commands to manipulate data (usually DTA files). Opening this file requires an expensive Stata license, though its code can be read with any text editor. Rarely, it can also appear as a downloaded Hancom Office document or an archaic Apple II disk image. To fix a downloaded web .do file, your immediate target format is whatever the file was supposed to be. If it is an invoice, convert or rename it to PDF. If it is a downloaded archive, convert to ZIP. For Stata files, convert to TXT for universal sharing. You do not need to guess what is inside.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted DTA, PDF, DOFILE, SMCL, DO 2, BIN, STSWP, DOCX, D04, DO_, __, ZIP and PVC files.

The DO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DO converter.
