About DLG files
The .DLG file extension is highly fragmented and represents over a dozen different formats. It primarily splits into two completely different categories: Game Dialogue Data Files and Hardware Data Log Files. In the gaming industry, engines like the BioWare Aurora Engine (used in Dragon Age), The Talos Principle, and Vampire: The Masquerade use .DLG files to store non-playable character (NPC) conversation trees, user interface dialogs, and game scripts. In the industrial and scientific sectors, .DLG files are generated by hardware loggers. This includes molecular docking logs from AutoDock, power analyzer telemetry from Keysight, SCADA system logs (like Rockwell Automation), and dive computer data from brands like Mares and Suunto. The primary disadvantage of the .DLG format is its lack of standardization. Because it is used by so many disconnected systems, your operating system rarely knows how to open it. Double-clicking usually results in an error. Binary game dialogue files cannot be read without specific modding tools, while proprietary sensor logs often require expensive, obsolete, or licensed software to view the raw telemetry. The lack of standard encoding makes archiving and cross-platform sharing incredibly difficult. Converting your .DLG files is the best way to make the data accessible. For plain text scripts or UTF-8 dialogue files, converting to TXT or JSON makes editing straightforward for modders. For sensor logs and dive data, converting to CSV or XLSX allows you to analyze the telemetry in standard spreadsheet software. For legacy game modding, exporting dialogue trees to XML is standard practice.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DLG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DLG file to SHP, KML, KMZ, GPX, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW, SID, IMG or DEM, you can use BioWare Aurora Engine or similar software from the "Game Dialogue & Data Logging" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LAZ, KMZ, DTM, CSV, DEM, PRJ, LAS, GPX, DSM, SHP, DBF or KML files to DLG, try BioWare Aurora Engine or another comparable tool in the "Game Dialogue & Data Logging" category.
The DLG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DLG converter.
