About BCH files
The .BCH file extension primarily represents two entirely different proprietary formats: a Nintendo 3DS graphics container and an Instron Bluehill materials testing batch file. In the context of gaming, .BCH files store 3D models, textures, and animations for Nintendo 3DS games like Pokémon. In the engineering sector, Instron Bluehill uses the .BCH extension to save materials testing batch data within an internal Microsoft Compound structure. Additionally, .BCH is used by security tools like Boxcryptor and BackupChain for encrypted folder keys.
The main disadvantage of the .BCH format is its strictly closed ecosystem. It is proprietary and entirely unreadable by web browsers, standard image viewers, or basic operating system utilities. If you do not have the native software or specialized reverse-engineering tools, the file is essentially useless. Furthermore, if the file is an encrypted backup key, you cannot bypass the security without the original passphrase.
Users frequently need to convert these files to standardized formats. Game modders want to extract 3D models to OBJ or DAE and textures to PNG. Test engineers need their batch data exported to CSV or XLSX to analyze the results in Microsoft Excel.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert due to its proprietary binary nature, standard online converters consistently fail. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show its internal hex or text content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BCH file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The BCH Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BCH converter.
