To convert other file formats to the "Compressed Document Image" file type, you need software like DjVuLibre or a similar tool.
About DJVU files
The .DJVU file format stores scanned documents, digital books, and high-resolution images. Developed by AT&T Labs, it separates a page into background (images and colors) and foreground (text and lines) layers to achieve extremely high compression rates. You can open these files using open-source desktop tools like DjVuLibre or WinDjView.
However, the .DJVU format is practically obsolete today. It lacks native support in modern web browsers, smartphones, and tablets. Most users do not have a compatible reader installed, making these files incredibly difficult to share or read on the go. Furthermore, a variant of the .DJVU extension is notoriously used by the STOP/Djvu ransomware to lock maliciously encrypted files.
To ensure compatibility, you must convert these files. For universal document sharing and long-term archiving, convert to PDF. For reading on mobile devices and e-readers, convert to EPUB. For extracting specific scanned pages, convert to JPG or PNG. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing outdated software.

The DJVU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DJVU converter.
