The .DET file extension is a generic container used by various legacy systems to store "detail" records, most notably associated with older versions of ACT! CRM (formerly by The Sage Group). In the context of ACT!, these files specifically store the body text and metadata of emails attached to contact history records. A key problem with .DET files is their proprietary nature; they are often detached from the main database (.DBF or SQL), making them unreadable orphan files if you no longer have the specific version of ACT! installed.
Beyond CRM data, the .DET extension is a "wildcard" format used in disparate industries. It serves as a structural steel detailing file in SDS/2, a payroll resource file in Schedule Express, and even a disguised PDF or ZIP archive in government reporting systems (such as Italian Ministry of Labour receipts or SUNAT declarations).
