About DAL files
The .DAL file extension is a chaotic container used by several distinct hardware ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users trying to open them on a standard PC. Most commonly (approx. 37%), it is a Registration Data file for Casio CT-X series keyboards, storing complex user settings, tones, and rhythms in a proprietary binary format. These files are designed for the keyboard's internal OS, meaning Microsoft Word or Notepad cannot interpret them - opening them in a text editor usually displays gibberish and risks corrupting the file header. Another frequent use is by DYMO Label Software as a legacy Address Book, locking valuable contact lists inside a format that newer software versions often struggle to import directly.
In industrial contexts, .DAL files serve as Data Acquisition Logs for devices like Honeywell gas detectors, containing critical safety time-series data. The core problem with all these formats is interoperability: a Casio musician cannot easily visualize their settings on a computer, and a DYMO user cannot easily migrate their address book to Outlook or Google Contacts.
Conversion Strategies:
For DYMO Address Books: The ideal target is CSV or XLSX (Excel), allowing you to import your contacts into modern CRMs or email clients.
For Casio Users: While direct conversion to audio is impossible, converting to a Hex dump or specialized XML (if supported by third-party librarians) allows for archiving.
For Data Logs: Convert to CSV to analyze gas levels or sensor readings in spreadsheet software.
For Set-Top Boxes: Some ALI Corp firmware uses this extension for menu graphics; in these rare cases, the file may actually be a renamed PNG image.
Convert.Guru analyzes your DAL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert DAL file to L, CL, DL, KL, HL, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML or INI, you can use DYMO Label Software or similar software from the "Device Configuration & Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to DAL, try DYMO Label Software or another comparable tool in the "Device Configuration & Data Storage" category.
The DAL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DAL converter.
