The .ZEN file extension primarily represents a Programmable Relay Program file created by Omron's ZEN Support Software. It stores logic and settings for ZEN programmable relays used in industrial automation. Alternatively, it serves as a fracture mechanics input file for Zencrack or as a 3D game environment archive for the Piranha Bytes ZenGin engine used in games like Gothic. These files are highly proprietary and specialized. Omron relay files contain compiled ladder logic useless outside the ZEN ecosystem. Zencrack files hold complex mathematical mesh data for 3D simulation. ZenGin engine files store proprietary 3D meshes, textures, and scripts. The major disadvantage of the .ZEN format is that it cannot be opened by standard text editors or generic file viewers.
