Convert CUIX to another file type
To convert your CUIX file to another format, you need Autodesk AutoCAD or other Settings software.

To convert other file formats to the "CAD Configuration Archive" file type, you need software like Autodesk AutoCAD or a similar tool.
About CUIX files
The .CUIX file is the standard container for Custom User Interface settings in Autodesk AutoCAD (2010 and later). It stores the definition of ribbons, toolbars, menus, and workspace configurations. Unlike the older, plain-text MNU or uncompressed XML CUI files, the .CUIX format is actually a compressed ZIP archive containing multiple XML files and image assets (icons).
While this packaging makes distribution easier, it creates significant friction for CAD managers and power users who are used to text-based editing. You cannot simply open a .CUIX file in a text editor like Notepad++ to perform batch replacements or quick fixes; attempting to do so results in gibberish. Furthermore, migrating these files between different versions of AutoCAD often breaks custom toolbars due to schema changes.
To regain control over your data, a conversion workflow is often necessary:
For Inspection & Asset Recovery: Convert (or rename) the file to ZIP. This allows you to extract the raw PNG/BMP icons and view the internal PackageContents.xml structure without launching CAD software.
For Legacy Systems: Users supporting pre-2010 environments often need to migrate settings back to the uncompressed CUI format.
For External Editing: extracting the internal XML data allows for programmatic changes to UI definitions before re-packaging them.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CUIX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CUIX file to CUI, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV or PROPERTIES, you can use Autodesk AutoCAD or similar software from the "CAD Interface Customization" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to CUIX, try Autodesk AutoCAD or another comparable tool in the "CAD Interface Customization" category.
The CUIX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CUIX converter.
